Before starting a healthy weight loss program, it is important to do a thorough self assessment. This will identify the changes that need to be made to an individual's lifestyle that will result in healthy weight loss.

No one wants to weigh the same as they did during their teenage years. We cannot set our weight losing goal based on some celebrity's weight or skinny models. It will be considerably damage our pursuit of efficient weight loss plan. Let us not forget the fact that every person's weight is a combined result of diet, genetics and exercise. The combination is different for every single person and what works for the other might not work for you. Weight loss should be realistic; if you set unrealistic goals then you are inviting sure failure. Losing a pound per week in one year is not tough with effort and motivation.

Avoid high fat foods. HIgh fat content foods not only get stored as fat, they clog arteries and promote hypertension and heart disease. Avoid any weight loss system that pays no attention to fat consumption.

Start eating for health instead of eating to satisfy your taste buds. Focus on choosing whole foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, such as fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. These whole foods will supply your body with vitamins and nutrients, which will give your body more energy and stamina. Avoid eating empty foods that contain high levels of sugars, sugar substitutes, preservatives or additives. These foods are typically high in nutritionless calories and will make it difficult to lose weight.

Before every meal drink 16 ounces of water prior to eating. Doing this can help you lose weight, as you will eat less but still be full. This helps to encourage you to get the recommended amount of water daily and lose weight.

Instead of pie or cake for dessert, offer fruit-based fare like fondue, fruit cocktail, yogurt parfait, or, simply a fresh piece fruit. Not only will this reduce the fat and calorie content of your meal's finale, most folks find fruit more refreshing than sweets. After all, by dessert we're usually eating out of sheer habit anyway, not from hunger, so why "waist" the calories? You'll be surprised at how easy it really is to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Consume most of your calories early in the day and always eat breakfast. Don't eat after 8pm and not only will you avoid those added calories but you will sleep better.
